The value of natural rubies varies depending upon the four Cs of Connoisseurship together with their size and geographic origin. Diamonds are graded using a series of criteria that have become known as the four Cs, namely color, cut, clarity and carat weight. A variant of that standard can be used to evaluate colored gemstones. The four criteria that may be called the four Cs of Connoisseurship are: color, cut, clarity and crystal.
